Let Me Be Myself
Команда Vidchui реалізувала міні-проєкт «Дозволь мені бути собою» в рамках проєкту SIGNS (що фінансується програмою Erasmus+). Проєкт присвячений темам ідентичності, прийняття та права на жестову мову.
The Vidchui team carried out the mini-project „Let Me Be Myself” as part of the SIGNS project (funded by Erasmus+). The project focuses on identity, acceptance and the right to sign language.
Проєкт складається з трьох частин. У першій зустрілися мами, які тільки починають шлях реабілітації своїх дітей, і молоді люди з порушенням слуху, які вже пройшли цей шлях. Молодь щиро ділилася своїми історіями — про те, як жестова мова стала для них опорою, а не бар’єром. Як вона допомогла зрозуміти світ, знайти друзів і повірити в себе.
The project has three parts. In the first, mothers who had just begun their children’s rehabilitation journey met with young Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people who had already travelled this path. The young people openly shared their stories — how sign language became a source of support rather than a barrier. How it helped them understand the world, make friends and believe in themselves.
У другій частині семеро учасників і учасниць відповіли на одне запитання — що для них означає жестова мова. Кожна історія особлива: дружба, навчання, підтримка, нові знайомства. Разом вони показують, як багато важить право бути собою.
In the second part, seven participants answered one question — what does sign language mean to them? Each story is different: friendship, education, support, new connections. Together they show how much the right to be yourself really means.
У третій частині молодь навчала мам перших жестів на майстер-класі. Разом вони вчилися, помилялися, сміялися і підтримували одне одного. Для багатьох мам це був перший досвід спілкування жестовою мовою — і вони побачили, що це повноцінна мова, а не щось, чого варто соромитися чи уникати.
In the third part, young people taught mothers their first signs at a workshop. Together they learned, made mistakes, laughed and supported one another. For many mothers it was the first time they tried communicating in sign language — and they saw that it is a full language, not something to be ashamed of or avoided.
Жестова мова — це міст між дитиною та світом. Не стіна.
Sign language is a bridge between a child and the world. Not a wall.
